It is using energy well, because EE is saving without giving up quality of life or quality of production. An example of EE is the introduction of new technology or a change in people's behavior, such as unplugging and turning off all electronic devices which are not in use, using the washing machine only when fully loaded, storing boiled water in a thermos and many other examples which can be applied on a daily basis that enable us to be more efficient.

Energy efficiency reduces energy supply costs for the economy as a whole. The experiences of industrialized nations have demonstrated that one unit of energy saved by energy efficiency programs is far cheaper than the average cost of energy generation in Chile. Economic savings result from the reduction in energy consumption by consumers and industry, in all energy services such as light, air conditioning and transport. Energy efficiency also generates economic activity, jobs and technology learning opportunities in the new goods and services markets that are created for different types of users.

Energy efficiency alleviates the pressure on natural resources and human settlements by reducing the rate of growth in energy demand. This includes reducing local pressures as well as global ones such as CO2 emissions, which lead to global warming.

The benefits are greater for lower-income families, who spend a greater percentage of their income on energy. This is particularly important for the significant percentage of Chilean families which are headed by women.
